A once brilliant thing

I am at once

fire and water

an inferno heart

not beating but burning

incrementally doused

drop by bitter drop

by tears from a river

the kind that carves

canyons from rock

not by power

but by persistence

until i am neither

fire nor water

but rubble

and ash
