Autobiography
When I was a child,
school lunches were a
wilderness of imagined poison.
Sweeping for toxins,
i'd convince my throat
to close and swell
with false imminence
and be told I was
much too cautious.
The allergy receded,
the caution remained
bearing capricious judgement.
And here, I am
strewing roasted shells about
ever-anxious feet.
Captive!
