Working linux on a Blackberry Priv?

Question

So I've been thinking about putting some form of Linux on a phone, but I don't want to carry around a keyboard. I think it would be super cool to have access to a Linux computer 24/7, so instead of playing games when I'm bored I can work in my Linux skills. I was wondering if anyone has gotten anything to run on a Blackberry Priv? The phone looks pretty great and has a slide out qwerty keyboard as well, so I think it would work pretty well.

I am a Priv owner, I am interested to see where this goes.

Biggest issue with doing this on a blackberry is that they have so much extra security in their bootloaders so loading an alternate OS is very difficult compared to a different phone. Otherwise it would be fairly easy to port Linux to it as it is running a Qualcomm 808 and they have quite a bit of drivers available for their chips.

This phone comes with Linux preinstalled, what skills do you what to practice with? We can maybe help you find good apps for your purpose.

I would love something like this. But if you want to learn linux, why not get an instance on AWS that you can ssh to from your phone? It is not the same but you can learn what you need.

If you can gain root access, you can run a Linux distribution on it

If you want to just have a non blackberry android version, you could look at installing a custom rom, which some people claim to have working.

You could also look at install project halium or postmarket os on it, but neither is a trivial task.

You can install Termux.
