Mount Rundle was one of the craziest things i've seen in my life. It really is insane how big it is and it's awesome how you can see it was literally the sea floor at some point and it looks like a giant just grabbed one end and pulled. Those trees on it that look like moss are very very tall, those little patches on the back are tiny forests a thousand feet in the air.

I did it 3 years ago, tough trail but great mountain. Got yelled at crossing the golf course at the bottom!

"I can't believe we just climbed a mount-" golf ball insta-kill

Round trip is 6-9 hours depending on your group. Just get there and you'll crush it.

That’s freaking awesome, I gotta do it

Whoa dude your human ancestor was older than a mountain!

I went to Banff last week and while we were driving down the highway I interrupted my wife mid sentence and had her take a picture of Rundle, it was the most amazing rock formation I had seen.

I previously posted a sunrise from the same spot on the shore. This here was taken shortly after sunset on June 24th. I wish I could say this hike was a feat of strength but this place is only a ten minute walk from downtown Banff where my hotel was.

I'm a landscape photographer based in New England: my website and my instagram.

These pictures are incredible! I have very barebones knowledge of photography and even I can tell that these are amazingly detailed, I'm sure the uncompressed images are stunning.

Any tips for a beginner how to take these kinds of photos?

Literally just try it. When I started photography I’d try and look up everything trying to learn, which helps, but honestly it’s not till you go out there and try that you’ll learn. You go out, take what you think is good, go home edit, dislike what you have, LEARN what you could’ve done better, and then try again.

Well I personally find a great time for mountain photos is during changing weather. When you have storms rolling in or especially when storms are clearing up I think you get fantastic moments. The moments are usually fleeting and to get truly fantastic photos you have to be in a good spot and be ready. You can have drab grey weather all day and suddenly the sun shines through a hole in the clouds for 5 minutes giving an orange and pink glow to the otherwise unsaturated landscape. Really I would just try not to overthink things at first. If you like it then shoot it. Once you get a feel for what you like and what works you can then start to plan outings around those conditions but until then just shoot a lot and see what works.

Glad you could get out and see Banff. :)

If you get back out there again, I advise a drive to Revelstoke! The mountains intensify the further you get to the glaciers in that area!

I almost died on that mountain. Decided to go up in my adidas Tennis shoes. Got up there, there was these funny prairie dog type animals and basically small rocks. Going down I thought it was a good idea to surf on these rocks. Running and then sliding like a radical dude. At some point I got a funny intuition that I should stop. I did and changed course to the right. Later I saw that if I had continued I would of fallen several hundred feet down to certain death. There was a cliff in the back of the mountain.

On the dragons back part? Apparently some people did die up there recently.

I don't know what its called but you have to take the trail in between the mountains, coming from Canmore, so basically, the other side of Rundle from this picture.

Omg classic banff tourists

Was actually camping in Canmore at the time, probably around 2005-6 ish, I think the city as grown a lot since.

Damn, I summit this mountain in hiking shoes and I thought I couldn't get enough grip with all the loose rocks. How'd you do it in tennis shoes???

I was just doing what a lot of Quebecers do when they go out west, work in the area, party a lot and do dumb things that young people do. I was camping at Wapiti camp north of the McDonalds, I think it doesnt exist anymore.

Photos like this make me question everything about my life. I want to be there but am a million miles from there. I need to re-evaluate everything - thanks for posting.

A moonrise where the moon isn’t artificial? You get an upvote from me.

Nice shot.

Played hockey on that lake on New Year’s Day 2 years ago. Best day ever. Also nearly died getting lost on Rundle the year before. Worst day ever.
