“Familiar”

Familiar.

A year ago, I saw a young boy there. His eyes are full of wonder. His smile is new. His face is all too familiar to me.

A month ago, in the same place, an adolescent. A distant memory of an old friend. His eyes are steady. His smirk confident.

A week ago on the wall, there was a young man. He tightens his tie, and buttons his suit. His fresh wrinkles speak of stress. His ring sings for his family. His slight smile of happiness. His eyes were set on me.

Yesterday I stared at me in the mirror, remembering me. My eyes are tired. The smile, once ever-present, replaced with a grey and voiceless frown.

Today, the mirror

Is broken. Memories are

Scattered on the floor.
