Parents
When you are younger
you don't have to worry,
they tuck you into bed,
gives you your food,
washes your clothes
and cleans that scab on your head.
You hold them and squeeze them,
tell them you love them,
and the off you go no care in the world
to do that thing you really HAVE to do.
So long they were there,
when they looked out for you.
But then, out of nowhere, there comes a day
when you look back and realised
that you have come a long way.
You don't need their help with that scab,
you now pay for your own food
and have your own bed to get to.
But here is the part that is the least fun,
For when you are grown, their job is done
and you quickly learn
that now you have only just begun,
now it is your turn.
You see the man, the one who stood so tall,
you watched him stand, now watch him fall.
This man took care of you throughout child hood
but now it simply breaks your heart,
for now you realise that the trips to the hospital,
are no longer far apart.
Now the women who held you when you cried,
now is crying to you, for now her father has died.
You cook her dinner, wash her clothes,
do everything she did.
But that is when you learn that cancer lay and hid.
Now you are the adult
and have your whole life to come.
But please, before they say adieu.
Go give them a hug, and tell them, "I love you."
