Where I'm Supposed to Be
Nearby oak trees and the pavement
are lit from the moon's shimmer.
Bawls and hollers from gusting winds
and the yowl of far-off wolves;
I am lost.
Then all at once, in the dark
a rich light flashes with illumination.
The night sky projects a shining
that feels brighter than any star
calling itself North.
It helps guide my body
to where I'm supposed to be.
And sends rich messages
of journeys I must take
to find my way home.
But home now is not the place
where I grew up.
It's not the place I recall;
it's altered, yet electrifying.
This new place that the calling from the sky
has taken me.
