The torque in the motor will dictate the  current so it should actually be backwards. You want the VFD to be able to deliver more current than the motor will draw.

Why not just add a resistor into the circuit?  A VFD would cost far more than necessary for such a small motor

I'm unfortunately not very well versed in motors and bought [this one](https://www.mcmaster.com/6135k202) some time ago.  I'm trying to run a test that requires I slowly ramp up the motor's speed.  Is there a speed controller I can hook up to it so I can accomplish this?
