[Submission Guidelines] Link to full URLs in your text posts and comments. Embedded or shortened links get hacked.
In 2014, I, as microwavedindividual, became a mod of r/gangstalking. I invited four others to mod. Posts were removed from the front page. I created wikis to archive them. The only mod duty u/OldNSmelly chose was to be a wiki contributor. Due to persistent hacking, I knew to use full URLS in all the wikis I created. u/OldNSmelly backed up two dozen wikis by creating URL short cuts. I was concerned so I checked the links. Almost all of his links were broken. u/OldNSmelly did not try to fix the broken links. He did not choose another mod duty. Head mod Tok-A-Mak demodded all his mods. We created r/targetedenergyweapons. u/OldNSmelly was ridiculed in r/gangstalking by u/stopgangstalking also known as DaMagiciansBack, because he was a mod of r/targetedenergyweapons. Stopgangstalking in r/gangstalking also ridiculed Stillalive because he was a mod of r/targetedenergyweapons. Subsequently, I had to demod both u/OldNSmelly and stillalive due to being inactive on Reddit. There has not been anyone else who backed up the wikis and wiki index. They continue to be hacked.
The past two months, our mod u/langa73436 embedded links. I notified her of three broken links. I requested the links be corrected and in the future to cite complete URLs. This is her most recent broken link which was obviously hacked as initially the link worked.
Embedded or shortened links are vulnerable to hacking. Whereas, complete URLS are easy to notice if they are hacked and are easy to fix without having to research the URL. Typically, a hacker creates a space to break the link. Delete the space and the link functions.
Checking links in new submissions and rechecking them later to ascertain whether they have been hacked should not be a mod duty. Nor should the burden of checking links be placed on our 1,097 subscribers. Nor should the only wiki contributor we have (me) take the time to archive posts that have broken links or thereafter have broken links.
Hence, I am creating a new submission guideline requiring links in text posts and comments to contain the full URL.
