Sonnet to Sleepless Nights

Feedback Received!

I lay my head upon its soft respite,

And count the time that I’ve got left to sleep.

I close my eyes and wish with all my might,

That rest come soon, and Lord, that rest be deep.

My thoughts won’t cease to tease my mind to play,

Yet even when I can refuse to think,

The shadows shall disturb me in some way,

Exhausted eyes that even closed could blink.

The present, past, and future blend as one,

And barely one can make an anxious mess,

It’s existential doom that’s come upon,

A being with no means of pain repress.

Exhaustion sneaks and takes me by surprise,

Why won’t you come before the sun will rise?
