Views on life

What drives the decisions you make in everyday life, and how does it connect to your view of the world (or life) in general?

Edit: non-sociopaths and sociopaths are invited to answer.

I believe that life is instrinically meaningless and that whatever we accomplish in our very limited time on this planet will ultimately mean nothing as everything will eventually deteriorate and vanish thousands of years from now. However, I do not view this as a pessimistic way of viewing things and actually find comfort and solice with this idea. Nothing in life really has meaning, right? So just find something that you enjoy or have passion for and make that your meaning in life, whether it be an athlete, scholar, engineer, garbage man, city planner, etc.

This is exactly how I view life as well! It brings me much comfort and I find solace in it when I am down.

The decisions I make everyday in life is based on what I think is best for me. I’m a little bit nihilistic, so I don’t really think I have a purpose in life. But I am a hedonist so I seek to make myself happy in my short life.

thanks for being honest

My ego. I make one single assumption about the universe I live in and that is "I am." Necessarily, all of my actions have to revolve around the only truth I have to hold onto.

Everything else is secondary to or is derived from my need to satiate my ego.

Which sounds bad, but living like a successful person in society seems like a fun challenge. So others don't have to worry about me trying to screw them over or something.

I am a narcissist, and I found the inability to learn information like that unattractive in a sociopath. You can get away with that, but her level of entitlement was to a point where she didn’t google shit anymore. She was born in a rich Arab family and moved to America, so she already lacked an upbringing here around other kids, and her parents tried sheltering her from other kids in her teen years. Her inability to learn from social situations and shit like that made her quiet and an outcast, but she didn’t give a shit. She was literally stupid because she believed her own word more than any other human. The smartest thing I ever did was try to conform to society, and that’s when I stopped looking obvious to others. I also stopped boasting around other people as much as I could.

Her excuse for being practically a loner was that people are either with her or they’re not, but that’s because no one goes to that low of standards for a friend.

lol I'm not saying I create my own truth. I'm saying all of my actions have the reasoning derived from my own observations, not any instinctual understanding.

She wasn't dumb because she was a sociopath, she was dumb and happened to be a sociopath.

3
BangBrosHellaHoes•

Well, I honestly think she was dumb because her ego was far too inflated. I understand that though, I find to hard to listen to another person telling me something. I would rather google a question rather than hear some glorified peasant in a classroom.

When people ask why, I say I just like learning things myself. And they think it’s attractive lol.

1
MellodiusReal Monster•

She probably assumed a lot more about the world other than "I am".

Glorified peasant? Lol be careful that's stepping into meme-y edgelord territory. Idk how old you are but you may eventually reach a point in academia or whatever subject where the internet won't readily have the answer. That's when it's good to be able to interact with others well.

It's exhausting, but definitely a challenge. Personal goals man. Personal goals. Get in on the right spot and it's pretty fucking easy to blend in and stay.

Bro, there are very few sociopaths on this subreddit.

I find the lack of meaning, as existence appears to be, annoying and senseless, and I equally find atheistic justifications for life and meaning pointless and senseless, which puts me in a crux. As we are humans, flawed and likely incapable of ever determining an origin of the universe, I think it's a big ol' waste of time to philosophize about speculative meanings when there's really only one empirically justified meaning to biological life, which is to reproduce.

Irregardless of religious belief or philosophy, it is quite illogical to wish for the death of mankind, as the only chance we have of surviving to any point of technological advancement sufficient enough to discover some fundamental law or concept of something beyond is to ensure our reproduction, health, and advancement.

So, to prevent me from becoming an amoral asshole who doesn't think anything has value and meaning and sits in his room listening to My Chemical Romance, I find purpose in furthering mankind in those fields, even though I don't necessarily believe in morality as anything but ficky social organizer. I view everything we get up to, from dramatic philosophy that favors the minds irrational perception of what it sees over empirical observation and data, to war and human emotion and violence, as superficial and useless things.

I recognize most of humanity is too emotionally immature to accept the idea that everything lacks a confirmable meaning, and so I see the use in things such as religion (can't discount this) and philosophy and morality as a means to check the ability of people to turn violent and towards control, as it has done in the past when these systems were degraded. However, when we flap around like children while we fund politics, arts, and the humanities, holstering the potential of the sciences and encouraging a scientifically illiterate society, it makes my blood boil. It is my intention to go into medicine and have a direct effect on the survival of a human, and thus possibly furthering our species reproduction. That's where I derive my motivation from, and from that a general purpose. I otherwise simply ignore the idea of a meaningless universe as I do to those who proclaim some form of truth and meaning that they pulled out of their assholes. You gotta live your life, and it does no good to be a nihilistic ass flap for most of it.

What's your point?

He’s attempting to make himself seem more believable and lampshade his awful, thesaurus ridden comment by preemptively discrediting other commenters.

Irregardless of religious belief or philosophy

You mean regardless.

Same thing

No it's fucking not you cretin.

Irregardless is a word sometimes used incorrectly in place of "regardless" or "irrespective". Most dictionaries list it as nonstandard or incorrect usage, and recommend that "regardless" be used instead.

So no. You just wrote out a bunch of shit to sound smart and then fucked it up by using a word that only exists in an incorrect fashion.

Congratulations. You fucked up.

Irregardless

That sounds like a word you'd only hear in a Ted Talk.

I think that people don't understand the true importance of the arts and humanities is to conceptualize and practice the manifestation of our imagination to come to life. The sciences are a means to the ends of the arts

_Paths•

Not a sociopath but for me its it's usually the fact that nothing really matters, not in a "everything I do is pointless so why try" kinda way more of a "if nothing in the end really matters then try to live a life that you can enjoy and forget the consequences because in the end you're gonna be dead anyways", seems like a easy way to live a guilt free life.

Did you willingly make the choice to have a child or was it forced upon you against your will & now you’re using that as an excuse to better yourself?

Hold up, if you’re inviting sociopaths and non sociopaths to answer, why even say anything? That edit was a complete waste of time on because not only do you have absolutely no way to enforce any kind of embargo, nor do you have any way to vet us.

Why not? Some non socios might think that this is solely intended for socios.

That edit was a complete waste of time on because not only do you have absolutely no way to enforce any kind of embargo

Where am I implying that I do have any way of enforcing anything?

, nor do you have any way to vet us.

I'm not vetting anyone.

The decisions I make in my life are caused either to make myself feel good, or as a way to protect myself. I suppose it connects with my view in life that morality and ethics are nothing but social constructs and so really, I can do whatever I want. However, I will say that I do want a society, and I dream of the world uniting humanity into one militaristic authoritarian socialist union to expand into space.

Idk

If I’m being 100% honest : I want to be rich. I want the nicest of things in life. I want things that others do not get to have. I want to be remembered because I feel like I deserve to be. I have ideas about furthering the development and survival of the human species and I think people should listen to me. Very narcissistic, Ik, but I do not care and my ideas as far as things we could implement now would be extremely unpopular as lots of people would die “unethically”. Basically day to day I’m looking out for me, myself and I but I would like to make a bigger impact but only if I could benefit from it myself as well.
