They really look great, I like the red cape! I am not sure on the lore behind this group, but my only thought is that the silver armour looks very clean! I am not sure if Ironskull'z boyzre very clean Orks, but if not maybe a little rust or oxidisation would look good on the armour?
The cape is also the bit that I am most pleased with. I always tried to stay away from drybrushing softer areas of the model (skin, fabrics etc.) and now I decided to just try it and I think it turned out great.
Originally my plan was definitely to make the armor much darker. I basecoated Leadbelcher, washed with Nuln Oil and then drybrushed Ironbreaker. In hindsight I probably should've basecoated the armor black and then drybrushed some Leadbelcher. Some of the armor was then washed with Agrax Earthshade for a little more worn look, but I think the camera didn't really pick that up (it's only noticeable on some of the weapons) - but even in real life it's barely noticeable.
To be honest I am always slightly afraid of ruining a "good" clean paint job by trying to add weathering to it. I almost didn't add the dirt to the bottom of the cloak lest I ruin the nice red cloak I had painted.

I can certainly relate to that!
Yes, I think the brightness probably comes from not starting from Black. Nothing wrong with that! Makes them stand out more if anything. These ladz can obviously afford new shiny armour and the goblins to polish it for them and wipe off all the muck and blood after they have slaughtered their enemies!
Great work, they look dead 'ard.
How difficult would it be to convert these guys to ork boyz for my 40k kill team?
Not without significant effort. The miniatures are push fit, so they have seams in the weirdest of places. You could probably swap out some weapons, but giving them a "real" 40k aesthetic would be difficult.
I recommend you have a look at the sprues on GW's website.
