Hi guys! I'm Dave, a D&D nerd who builds worldbuilding web apps. By night, I paint digital battlemaps, DM campaigns for friends, and build tools to help make DMing more easy, fun, and immersive.

My mission is to build free, open-source tools for DMs, authors and worldbuilders, and I've taken my first step forward in that mission with my latest project: Cartonomicon!

Basically, you can upload, mark, and nest your maps to create a full searchable world. This is helpful for worldbuilders with a lot of people/places/things to organize.

I'm looking for help beta testing the app with worldbuilders who will put it to the test! You can learn more at the project's website, or on the Patreon page:

Sounds like an awesome goal! Few questions, if ya don't mind.

What's the overall intended goal for this?

By app, I'm thinking mobile app. Will this be accessable for both PC AND app?

And lastly, any features you believe makes your app stand out from the rest?

The overall intended goal for Cartonomicon is to build the best, most versatile tool available for organizing user-created elements in relation to a map or image, and quickly sharing it with friends. Worldbuilding & DMing are two great use cases in particular that are close my heart where a tool like this could come in really handy. I'd like to kick off the Cartonomicon project with those use cases top-of-mind.

Cartonomicon is a mobile-friendly web app, meaning you get an app-like experience by visiting it in your phone's web browser. There is more work to be done on the UI, but the basic beta demo I put up is mobile-responsive, if you care to check it out!

There are very similar map marker annotation tools out there (WorldAnvil for example) so I won't say Cartonomicon is the first functionality of its kind. However, the piece of worldbuilding tools that appeals to me most -- the management of elements in relation to maps -- is often a sub-product of a much larger services that you may or may not end up using. They are also, for the most part, closed-source, which is a personal aversion of mine as someone who has benefited greatly from the generosity and sharing of those in the D&D community.

I do not have a map yet for my world because I'm really bad at it, but I'm trying and I would really like to try your app when times comes ! Great work

Looks interesting. Might not be something I would use myself but I will spread the word among my dnd and map making friends.
