One turn from victory
I was facing the heart of darkness at wk 85 of a Stygian run. When I entered I’d already lost nine characters over the campaign, (mainly vestals from double-crit with DOT) so there was no room for error.
I brought a Highwayman, Vestal, Joker and Crusader. By the end of the first stage the Crusader had acquired an affliction, despite stacking virtue trinkets, second and third stages went fine, but I only managed to get my crusader down to 120 stress.
Dismas made short work of the first third of the heart of darkness, and when meet your maker triggered I decided that the Joker was useless and should scrap him, I should have went with the crusader. For the second meet your maker, I thought I was still going to want an attacker left over, so I kept my crusader who was in good health but looking at about 160ish stress. I figured this fight would be over soon anyway and it wouldn’t matter.
Nope, critical hit.
I wound up with the heart at 17 HP, my crusader on deaths door with blight, bleed and like 189 stress. My Dismas has an action left, hits for 14 leaving the damn heart at 3. The heart proceeds to stress hit my crusader giving him a heart attack and ending the game.
I made some mistakes, both in that fight and previously, but I just wanted to vent about this being a brutal game.
I guess I’ll try again, with the DLCs this time.
