###Counter-Electronics High Power Microwave
The Counter-electronics High Power Microwave Project (CHAMP) was a project that was being handled at the Air Force Research Laboratory. The project was planned to use "a multi-shot, multi-target, high powered microwave (HPM)" in order to target and destroy enemy communications, radar, and other electronics. In small tests run by Boeing in the desert of Utah, the CHAMP was highly effective, destroying up to 7 targets before imploding. It is expected that the CHAMP, when placed on a missile, will be able to give off 100 shots per sortie, allowing for each CHAMP-equipped missile to destroy multiple radar installations or communications outpost in each go.
The CHAMP is superior to other EW platforms, such as the Northrop Grumman-developed AN/ASQ-242 EW system on the F-35, AN/ALQ-131 ECM pods, AN/ALQ-184 ECM pods, or the EA-18G Growler electronic warfare plane simply because of it's lethality. While the EA-18G and the AN/ASQ-242 jams electronics effectively and the ECM pods tricks electronics effectively, the CHAMP completely destroys electronics, rendering radar installations or communications outposts completely useless.
The CHAMP will be, over the next year, implemented onto the newly designated AGM-158BE JASSM ER-E missile platform. Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems will research ways to increase the shots-per-sortie number - given the fact that the CHAMP was initially tested on older missiles, it should not be too difficult. In addition, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics will run tests on the F-35A and F-35C variants of their 5th generation plane to discover ways to implement the CHAMP system onboard the F-35, either in replacement of the AN/ASQ-242 or alongside the AN/ASQ-242. The prototype of this version will be the named the E-35.
