Comprehensive FAQ for Valhalla Ruins/Guild Raid
What is Valhalla Ruins/Guild Raid?
It's a guild instance that has 5 minis/MVPs that are unique for each guild. It has four difficulty levels starting with the Level 40 ruins, then increasing by 20 levels. It was called Guild Raid in the CN server, shortened to GR with the level of the dungeon attached, e.g. GR40 for the first one.
Why do GR?
Because the bosses inside are guaranteed for your guild and party. No competition from other people like in the field. Also, bosses in these instances have better chances of dropping items than in the field. It's possible for 3 people to get purple items when clearing these.
How do I enter GRs?
Firstly, your guild should be at least level 2. Only guild members that are in the guild before the reset (Monday 5am GMT+7) can enter. Meaning if you entered the guild at Monday 5:01 am GMT+7 or later, you won't be able to join in the GR, you have to wait until the next reset.
What should I prepare when I want to do GR?
To enter the guild raid, you need 40 Silver Medals. Also, you should bring Panacea or wear Marduk cards because some bosses can silence your party. A silenced/disabled tank or priest means a wipe. A disabled wiz means no Crowd Control. Make sure you are prepared!
What should my party be like?
I strongly recommend having a tank, priest, wiz and 2 dps in your party. Not having one of the first 3 is not advisable. You're going to make it really difficult for your party if you're missing one. The only time I would suggest it is if you've already outleveled and outgeared the content.
What is it like?
Every week, each difficulty has a set of maps that is randomized. Each map can have one to four portals that can lead to one of three posibilities:
- A dead end. You have to kill all enemies for the portal to appear to head back to the previous map.
- The next map. This is what you need to proceed and finish the raid.
- A boss map. A boss or miniboss is here and is one of the objectives of the raid. Once you kill a boss, one of the skulls at the entrance will be marked with an X.
Bosses can appear anywhere so you have to comb through all the portals to make sure you don't miss one. However, The map is same for all guilds across all channels. This means that if a group clears the raid and makes a map, they can share the map to other people so people don't have to comb through all the portals to find the bosses.
What does a map look like?
Here's a popular site that lists GR maps: http://ro.zhaiwuyu.com/valhalla/
This is the template that most people look at when making their personal maps. There are different kinds of maps with different objectives.
- Kill all monsters to make the portal appear
- Find switches to reveal portals
- For some maps with bosses, you have to kill the boss for the portal to appear.
Since it's hard to demo which maps have which objectives in this text guide, I'll just leave it to you, the reader, to figure what each map needs :P
Also, unfortunately, no one has made an equivalent map site for SEA as of this writing.
What happens when I solo an instance?
Your guildmates will still have bosses when they enter the dungeon, don't worry. The mechanics is the same with Endless Tower, if you already cleared a boss, you won't get loots a second time, just friendship tokens and contribution points.
Thanks for reading! I hope this helps you and your guild!
I'll try to make a video version of this guide (but it's low on my priority list right now). Please visit my Youtube Channel https://youtube.com/GrawrzGuide :D
