Lost are Found
Human hearts, both strong and meek,
are meant to break and mend
Pure love is like the air they breathe,
made to receive and send
A human heart deprived this course
will harden like cement
Though pain and torture mark the path,
love must be got and sent
A nearly broken heart that’s lost
will cling to love that lies
Better to pretend belief
than open painful eyes
Brittle, cracking, falling loose,
still grasping every thread
Deceptive webs of gross untruth
slash piercing wounds of dread
Until at last no option’s left
Except to see what’s there
What once was sweet, now torn to shreds
ripped barren, dry, and bare
Mem’ries burn and scar the mind,
reliving strikes and lies
The human heart meanders on
while at its core it cries
Forgive it must; forget it can’t,
and who could tell it to?
For though the scars are ripe and raw,
they help the heart be true
A broken heart perhaps is not,
in fact, destroyed at all
But just a heart more fortunate
for suffering its fall
In the end, this cruel, cruel game
of love gone dry and thin
Is just the storm that cuts the path
for hearts to shed their skin
The bludgeoned, ravaged, cleared-out heart
beats strong, and will endure
Because it knows the love it held
was always true and pure
A heart once broken open then
has tripled in its size
Capacity compounded,
It now seeks with wiser eyes
Having freshly found itself,
the scarred heart moves along,
its cracks and fissures letting loose
a clearer, sweeter song
