A daughter is not a hammer

smashing your nails

quick fixes

she has a belly ache

of borrowed anger

swollen with time, it burrows for winter

her limbs twist

into a shoelace for protection

over, under, loop through and pull

a proud bow

​

similar to the bow her mother chose

to tuck golden locks beneath on picture day

it matches her pink socks

tell me who you love more

mommy or daddy?

only one will break
