Red Dead Online FAQ

PSA

I've played for approximately six hours, so I don't know EVERYTHING, but I can probably answer most questions.

1). How is the character creator?

  • Much better than GTAO, there's a fair amount of variety, and there's a few haircuts and beards that don't appear in the creation screen. Gone are the days of "twinsies"

2). Where are my ultimate edition bonuses?

  • Check the stables under Race for the Thoroughbred, and under the Arabian is under the last category (can't remember name). Your guns are in the catalogue at the gunsmith. Your Outfits are in the general store catalogue

3). How long is the tutorial?

  • About an hour

4). How do Posse's work?

  • You can form a temporary Posse (1-4 People for free) or for $200 you can create a Persistent Posse (1-7 People)

5). Can I edit my character after creation?

  • Outside of changing hairstyle, no. Also, no dynamic beard growth

6). How does Dead-eye work?

  • You essentially get to choose an ability (during the tutorial) for what Dead-eye can do (regen health, increase team damage, etc) while active. It does not slow down time. There are multiple abilities to choose from, but after the initial free choice, it costs $50 to change.

7). How much do missions pay?

  • Anywhere between $3-$12, maybe a little more. Generally payouts feel a but underwhelming at this point.

8). What's the best way to make money?

  • Still learning, but right now ranking up and unlocking treasure maps (will be delivered to post office) seems to be the best way to get chunks of money.

9). What is Gold?

  • It appears to be the premium currency for RDRO. Not available to buy at the moment, can be earned in game, but fairly slow to earn.

10). Is hunting in the game?

  • Hunting and Fishing are in online. To fish, you must reach rank 14 to buy a fishing rod (~$32). You can hunt and track animals, sell their pelts and parts, or use them for crafting and eating.

11). Is there Poker?

  • There is no Poker, Liars Dice, Dominos, Five Finger Filet, or Blackjack in online at this time.

12). Can I make a Private session? Is there a passive mode?

  • No to both at this time

13). Can I Free-Aim? Are there Free-Aim only lobbies?

  • Yes to the first, no to the second

14). How expensive are things?

  • A few examples should do here. Litchfield Repeater $650, Bolt Action Rifle $350, Mauser Pistol $1000. Food ranged from ~$0.40-$2.00, medicine is around $3.50, horses and clothes are similar to singleplayer

15). Can I lasso/hogtie people?

  • Yes, but the person can escape (Not sure how that mechanic works yet)

16). How do camps work?

  • There are 13 locations you can choose between to set up camp. You can have a small camp, or a large (if you have a Persistent Posse). In camp you can drink beer, cook, check your mail, hitch your horse, and craft things in safety so long as you have your white flag up (there's two flags, white means safe from enemies, red means able to be raided, there doesn't seem to be any reason to not have your white flag up). There is some customization for camp, but it is largely locked behind some serious leveling. You can move camps if you wish, but it will cost a few bucks ($1 or $2 for small camps, $5 for large camps)

17). Can I have multiple characters?

  • No

18). Can I rob stores, people, or trains?

  • No
