Does he want the judges number to give him a bj too? Billy Kemper won that whole event he had the biggest most gnar gnar barrels even if he didn’t make em out on the board he made it out kinda body surfing/ skipping across the wave fave. In a normal session I’d say billy was charging the hardest. But Kai Lenny killed it too! Blowjobs for everyone!
YOU get a blow job! And YOU get a blow job! Everyone gets a blow job!
It was definitely a little strange that Billy ended up winning with a wave he didn't make, even though that wave was clearly the gnarliest of the heat. I think the scale ended up getting a little messed up because of the lack of opportunities in the later stages of the heat. That being said, they probably need to refine the way they score these contests because of how fast these guys are progressing and making these absurd monster barrels.
This is kind of douchey no? They're all from the same island. Stuff like this has to cause tension.
Kemper lives on Oahu. Kai & Albee live on Maui
You must not compete in individual sports. They get criticized every damn day. You can razz each other and call things the way you see them all day long and still maintain respect for one another. I hardly doubt any tension was derived from this.
He has a point
Interesting that only round 1 heat 1 is available for replay on WSL's site...
as long as they make it to the end its basically a make. a tube should always be rewarded at such nuts wave heights!
I think this might be because of Kemper's high scoring barrel. Kemper didn't make it out, but it was an amazing barrel.
Unfortunate the winds turned on and the last half of the final was so slow.
I think Kemper won. Kai is amazingly talented and his tow session was awesome. I just think Kemper caught the better waves, even if he didn't make that barrel. The judges award commitment and I don't think anyone commits harder than Kemper.
So wave selection is about the gnarliest wave and not about picking ones that are gnarly that you can also ride out of?
Kia had the better two wave combo. I don’t know how you can think Keller’s other wave that he fell on should have been scored as high
holy auto correct batman. But I agree.
Commitment is a big factor in big wave event scoring. I think people make incorrect comparisons to the CT when talking about the judging criteria.
The CT and Big Wave have different criteria for scoring waves. When people are surfing mountains, they give credit where credit is due, even if they dont make waves.
Kai caught great wavea. But that barrel by Kemper was ridiuclous, even if he didnt make it out at the very end. He road an absolute monster of a barrel, something very few people can do. I would argue it was one of the best barrels in the big wave competitve scene.
Brah if commitment was a thing why Lucas chianca didn't get the score when tried to hit a 20 foot lip, or did a air on a big wave, the guy was surfing on whole other level, but I think kemper won in the final
Maybe it's cause throwing caution to the wind (figuratively and literally) is not perceived as a skill while on the other hand backdooring a massive tube and riding over the foamball is considered like the pinnacle of the exercise?

I think this might be because Albee is a bit of a whiny bitch who complains all the time (ETA maybe the appropriate term is red ass)
He's not whining, he's calling it like it is.
Maybe if he articulated a reason, but for my money Kemper's 8 was the best surfed wave of the final, his backup was a better big wave wave, and he actually paddled on Monday for good measure
Kai Lenny did a cool downcarve, but Albee shouldn't complain about not running on the big day and then complain that the guy who charged and packed the craziest tubes won... WTF did he expect to have happen if they ran on Monday?
unfollowed the dude years ago, while many surfers complain incessantly, but his complaints often seem particularly rooted in narcissism and lack anything constructive
