Boosie is this generations 'fuck the police' song star along the lines of N.W.A. and that shit is pretty fire (airhorn!), and blasted at a lot of protests against brutality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nof5tK6Mtqw

So I'm wondering what the rest of the story is.. what was going on between the coordinators and the police, etc.

When you have the swat team quitting because they weren't able to use a 'heavy handed' (per the PDs spokesperson) approach, it also kind of sounds like the swat PD wanted to fight or at least push some people around.

yeah, i’d like to know more about the story. it kind of sounds like they have a decent chief who’s cautious about using aggressive tactics, and the pd is punishing him for it

Remember the days when police and cities shut down shows all the time? 80's, 90's.. N.W.A. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRIu38M1CsQ, 2 Live Crew, Marilyn Manson..

It probably still happens but 2 Live Crew fought it in court and I think changed things a bit. Seems now days they just post their swat team at the show and expect to get an all clear to drop the hammer and throw a fit if they don't get it.

Of course the media isn't going to tell the other side of the story so we'll probably not hear what was going on.

ETA: 2 Live Crew incident was in Florida, and Marilyn Manson was also arrested in Florida. Even this year someone was arrested for playing NWA's ftp this year https://www.news-press.com/story/news/crime/2018/04/06/fort-myers-beach-spring-breaker-arrested-playing-n-w-s/494513002/

So Florida seems to have a particular history how it handles freedom of expression
