Pretty controversial article for this crowd. I'll be honest and say I was hoping that he just went crazy but it seems like this was completely premeditated. I wonder if they'll hang him.

Let me say, right off the bat, before I get attacked for what I'll say next, that I have no problem with this guy facing a firing squad (although, I'd prefer life without possibility of parole). And, no matter how 'conflicted' or 'stressed' he was, he took actions that require severe consequences.

That said, how did the military not see the warning signs? Why did they not straight jacket or discharge him?

From what I've read, he should never have joined/been allowed in or allowed to stay, in the first place. His conflicted allegiances, IMO, could never have allowed him to commit himself fully to defending the United States. And, as has been reported, several people in the military were aware of this.

Obviously, he is 100% responsible for his actions. However, had these issues been dealt with, the lives of 14 Americans may have been spared.

I have also been researching the lowering of recruiting standards, changes in deployment procedures, PTSD, and their related societal and criminal impacts, both here and abroad. And, the bottom line appears to be that the military has overlooked several warning signs in order to fill the ranks. The results should come as a surprise to no one.

I'm not sure the whole Muslim/Al Qaeda link is that unique to the result. There are certainly numerous other examples of violence and mass murder committed by similarly demented folks of every faith and creed. And, if the military does not start paying attention to this phenomenon, it is only a matter of time, before some Neo-Nazi, Gang Member, or other 'Extremist', comes home from the ME, better trained and armed, and perpetuates a similar crime - maybe not this year or next, but it will happen. See Timothy McVeigh.
