Thinning an unfinished neck. Advice and tips please.

I’ve got a Warmoth Telecaster neck 59 round back profile. I really like the neck, but it’s just a little beefy. I’d like to thin it out a little. Any advice? Just take to it with sandpaper? Shaping block?
