Any Canadians have experience in finding LA management?

Hi all,

Do any Toronto based actors have any advice to give on finding LA representation? A friend recently partnered up with an LA manager, and they worked together to get her a work visa so that she was eligible for self-tape auditions and ready to travel from Toronto at a moment's notice. Last year I had asked my agent whether this was something I should attempt, but the answer I got was given the time and cost, it's better to wait for these opportunities to come to me.

My friend just successfully got her visa, and we're in similar stages in our careers, and what she's doing just seems smart and proactive. I'm wondering again about re-discussing this with my Toronto agent, or doing some research on finding someone on my own.

Does anyone have any opinions or similar stories? Have any of you done what my friend has? Has it worked for you? Have you found your efforts worth it?
