What if King Edward VIII didn’t abdicate and remained on the throne?
Let’s say that for whatever reason, Edward gives up Wallis Simpson and doesn’t abdicate in 1936. How does history change for the UK from that point on? How does Edward handle WW2? Especially given his (rumoured) pro-Nazi sympathies.
Something else to think about: In our timeline Edward dies in 1972, and George (who only became king since Edward abdicated) died in 1952. Assuming that Edward doesn’t have any children of his own to succeed him, Elizabeth becomes queen twenty years later than in reality.
