trouble with smite launch since recent update

I have been able to play smite without any trouble since the switch to steam launcher. After the latest update on monday I got an issue where the game crashed upon trying to launch the game in 64 bit, giving me the error about corrupted data so I uninstalled, cleared download cache and re installed. That let me play the game yesterday and then another update hit this morning and now I've done the same as before, but now after re installing and trying to launch I just get stuck in an endless download loop where nothing is actually being downloaded, and neither hi rez nor steam is helping me. Has anyone had to deal with this before? and before anyone asks I checked hard drive health and re installed on another drive just to be sure, no difference.
