Small claims for breach of warranty (Ontario)

My wife and I bought items at a furniture store a few months ago. Today we realized they were starting to break. These items are static and don't ever get used (they are prints in frames). We followed standard procedure with the furniture company to apply for replacements as they have all been purchased under a year (warranty period on stores website). We were told via email that we were ineligible for the warrantied exchange as their team concluded the damage was from wear and tear and not a manufacturer's defect.

It is extremely difficult to get a hold of anyone who can speak with confidence on our case from the company. This has led us to believe that were getting "jerked around" in the hopes we let it drop.

Im starting to wonder about suing in small claims for breach of warranty. I've never been through the process, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Namely;

  • any must-read articles or guides detailing how to prepare a small claims case;
  • any experience with breach of warranty cases;
  • any general advice - potentially steps that should be considered before filing in small claims.
