Is NameCheap out to scam you? Short answer, YES.

Lets look at the scenario. You sign up and put your trust into a company that will manage the hosting of your website. You pay for a year and its time to renew. They tell you that there is a new plan and need to move you over. Little did the consumer know that they are also secretly holding your website hostage and will not release the data unless you pay a premium fee. They no longer offer the old plan and now you are stuck with paying an extortion fee to get back what you owned.
