My roommates decided to get a dog without telling me, on a long list of other things. How do I tell them I’m moving out?

Non-Romantic

I went in blind with my current roommates, but I have my own bedroom and bathroom, so I did not think too much of it. We have 5 cats (4 people) which sounds like a lot, but is not hard to manage. However, my roommates are constantly messy, gossipy, and in general people I do not want to associate with. I have always thought about moving before next semester, but today was the final straw.

I got a text halfway through the day asking if I like dogs. I do, I have two at my parents house. They responded with “well, we just got approved to foster a pit bull, it’ll be here on Sunday”. Mind you, next week is FINALS WEEK. Amid that, I have a kitten who is sweet and white and fluffy and happens to look just like a rabbit - even my sweet Labrador (at my parents) chases him.

So I tell them I really, really don’t think that’s a good idea, even if the fostering is just for 10 days. But they said nope, too late, it’s already done. IN ADDITION, they said I’m going to help pay for it, and one of my roommates declared that if she really loves the dog, she’s keeping it.

Now, they got mad that I wasn’t thrilled about this, and said I must not love animals. Well, I’m not thrilled about my small apartment having this many animals, when they cannot even clean up after themselves regularly.

As luck would have it, I found a girl with a nice, affordable place and sweet roommates that agreed to let me sublease her apartment next semester. I plan to move out ASAP after finals, and find a subleaser over break. My question is, how do I tell my current roommates I’m leaving? I don’t want to tell them now while I’m still here, but I know it’ll be awkward when a uHaul appears next week. Any advice would be appreciated.

TLDR;; roommates are getting a foster dog without asking me or caring about what I would think, how do I tell them I’m moving out next week?
