Bug: Stuck on "Search for the merchant that Marwitz mentioned" interactive storytelling. SPOILER ALERT

Spoiler alert about an early main mission: I came out of home to the Square Center to look for the merchant. Started the storytelling part, but came here with no money at all, zero gold. And now I'm stuck on options

TURN RIGHT

GO STRAIGHT AHEAD

All three, followed in any order, end on the situation of me needing 50 gold to buy something to give to somebody, but I have no gold, so I'm stuck on that screen.

I can't see any X or Back button. Esc goes to main menu...
