[25F] I get migraines with aura at most twice per year. Is it weird they’re posture-related? And are they dangerous? Do they increase my risk of stroke?
I’ve had maybe 5 migraines with aura since I was 19. I’m now 25. So clearly they’re not frequent. But they are real.
I typically get a fuzzy little dot in the center of my left eye, which grows into a zigzagging blurry ring as it moves across my visual field. It ends typically in my right eye and fades out. Then about 20 minutes later, the headache sets in and lasts a couple hours, at least.
I have noticed a clear trigger: I am always on my stomach, propped up on my elbows, when they occur. The ONE time it didn’t occur this way, I had been bent over and looked up quickly (my neck extended).
I have seen a neurologist and an ophthalmologist (just in case). Neither was too concerned due to their frequency. But my gynecologist was—she took me off my combo birth control. But I just got over another one recently, and I wanted to ask a community of migraine sufferers what your understanding is.
Is it weird that my migraines are posture-related? Is that typical of migraines, or could there be something structurally wrong that’s causing them? Do these increase my chances of stroke? I have a pretty strong family history. Grandma died of a stroke at 63, dad had a stroke at 56, my grandpa on my mom’s side had a TIA in his 70s.
