Hello everyone, need some beginner tips.
I just went all out and bought my first ever backpacking tent (Rei Half Dome 2 plus) and other stuff like a sleeping bag, stove, etc. I have been car camping many times before. And I can hike 10-15 miles a day. I am not in perfect shape but I love hiking and camping. I usually take more time than most other people while hiking uphill.
I wanted to get some advice where I should go for my first backpacking trip and how much distance should I be covering. I'm planning a trip in February 2019 (will need time for permits and stuff). I live in California. I have read a lot of blogs to understand what all gear I'll be needing and have narrowed it down to - tent, footprint, sleeping bag, foam mat, stove, fuel for the stove, and other things like water, food, headlamp, etc. Am I missing anything essential?
Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)
Edit: I have an Osprey 50L backpack.
Edit: Thank you so much guys. There is some amazing advice in the comments. I have read some and noted it down. Still need to go through a lot of the comments. Going to bed now but will surely read it tomorrow. Also, I have enough places to backpack for a good chunck of a year, thanks to you guys. Thanks again, this is very helpful :)
Edit: Read through the remaining comments. I'm feeling confident now that everyone covered all the important things. I couldn't reply to everyone, but when I have time, I'll make a checklist and important tips and post it here so it can help other beginners!
Have a nice day :)
