Struggling to figure out how to get a job

ADVICE

When I got married in my 20's, I thought nothing of leaving my job to move with my husband to another state. I got a great job there for 4 years and even started my master's degree as that is what support personnel did at that job to get ahead. Then he had to leave the state again so of course I went with him, probably leaving the best job I will ever have.

Then living in this small town in another state, I taught gymnastics, which was far from the office environment I was used to but it was wonderful. But, after 9 months we had to move again out of state. I didnt work for a few years then, volunteering a lot for the Humane Society, because I had bad endometriosis and had a hysterectomy and various other surgeries. Then we moved again to a crappy small town where all industry had left in Appalachia. I got a part-time job doing very little for a small business.

I am now divorced living in my large hometown in the midwest but no one will even look at me seriously because I left so many jobs and didnt work for a while. I did end up finishing my MBA later but now I fear it looks bad on a resume as my support positions as coordinator/assistant only confuses people.

I could really use some help in framing the situation better on my resume as well as how to explain the situation somehow in cover letters. I did not go to school for all those years to not work yet because I was young and naive when I got married, I made huge mistakes. In addition, I imagine there is a better way to frame the situation of my last job on a resume which happened to be very informal but I want it to sound more enticing. I am still paying school loans, too, as well as my apartment so I really need to figure something out soon. I am now living in my hometown with no job but excited to start over and am willing to work very hard and prove myself but I'm 42 now, not 20, which people notice.

Thank you for all of your help. I appreciate it immensely.
