FAQ v2

How do I play "backups"?

You need custom firmware (CFW) At the moment, there are 2 options capable of "backup” loading; ReiNX which is free or SX OS which costs $27.

On top of that you need a way of launching the CFW payload to your switch everytime your switch dies or you properly turn off. The SX Pro is a dongle which comes with a SX OS license and launches payloads. You can use your Phone as well as long as you have the right cables to plug it into your switch. You can use your PC too. Payloads should be a .bin and should be on the CFWs' websites.

What are the differences?

  • SX OS supports XCI loading, but most people have dumped them in favour of NSPs which ReiNX and SX OS both support.\NSPs are better as they use less storage and you don't have to 'mount games' (XCIs are game cartridge files so you have to mount games in the SX OS menu so that the Switch can be tricked into thinking a new game has been inserted). NSPs are eshop game dumps which mean that there is no need to 'mount games' and all games run straight from the Switch horizon menu. DLCS and Updates are in NSP format. Try to use NSPs.
  • SX OS should work almost perfectly but ReiNX is a WIP. ReiNX is being worked on fast hough.
  • SX OS also has a NSP installer which supports installing DLCs and updates but there is a SX OS 'crack' homebrew app called rommenu.nro which steals this feature. Or you can use Tinfoil made by Adubbz which can do the same thing and comes in the SD Stash!
  • ReiNX IS FREE!!!! ya filthy pirates.

At the moment if you want stability and performance, SX OS is the way to go but ReiNX it shaping up rather quickly ;)
