cpu upgrade

and i was wondering if i was able to upgrade from a ryzen 5 1500x to a ryzen 7 2700x. and if so, what are the steps needing to upgrade it. ive heard that i need to update the bios and ive done some research but im still a little confused. thanks for the replies.
