How should i prevent clogs wbile waiting for coats to dry?

I’m airbrushing plastic models using water-based paints and would need to wait 20 mins or so between coats. How do I prevent paint to dry in the airbrush? Can I use paint thinner after a coat to flush everything out or do I need something else?

My current airbrush has a clog and it’s eztremely hectic to clean, I believe some paint dried in somewhere and might require mechanical scrubbing to remove.

How can I prevent this between airbrushing coats?
