Dehydrating hot dog weiners for dog treats

I am thinking about dehydrating packs of hot dog weiners, beef franks, whatever they call them these days for dog treats. Is this viable? I read somewhere that some things you have a shorter shelf life because of fat I think it was going back in the dehydrating things going bad. Wondering if anyone can offer some input on this.
