Does the Captain Marvel movie take place in a different dimension (as well as an earlier time)?

So I believe the movie takes place in the 90s? We have a younger, two-eyed Nick Fury and younger looking Agent Coulson in the previews.

But I am wondering if it takes place in the same dimension (so to speak) as the current MCU movies?

It seems weird there was no mention of Captain Marvel previously by Fury or The Avengers in movies past.

Just going off the previews, she seems like Marvel’s “Superman”. Having cosmic powers. Using her powers in plain site of Earth’s populace. It’s not like she is fighting in secret (again, just going off some scenes in the previews).
