Appreciation Post for the Gunners Today
I'm really frustrated at the result as well. During the match, the idea of finally winning at OT on a rainy, foggy, midweek night floated in my mind. Our players could've finally broken the curse and shown that a win at OT was now within the realm of possibility.
That's how it should've been. An offside goal, red cards unrighteously kept in the ref's pocket and seeing our players getting injured & bullied really fucking sucked.
In contrast to recent years, I never saw our players lose hope or give up today. I remember how our players would play under a wet blanket of sulkiness after we conceded a bullshit goal. I remember seeing the Ox lash out in frustration when no one in the red-striped Arsenal kit took initiative during the Bayern game. When he left, I was angry at myself since I could understand why he wanted to.
We still missed obvious chances today. I screamed when Mkhi's goal that made my heart leap was obviously offside.
Even after this display, I'm glad that I can be angry about these things. Sokratis shutting down their play with tactical fouls, instead of Koscielny getting sent off on a careless tackle. Guendouzi still improving within the game even after foul after fucking foul, instead of our midfield going invisible after some bullying. Aubameyang tracking back, instead of Walcott ignoring defensive duties. (I still love Kosc and Walcott tho).
There were still promising components that made Arsenal seem tougher, grittier and mentally stronger than I previously gotten used to. This is not a dig at all at Wenger or our previous players, but I can't help but appreciate the squad today for getting cheated and tugged during an important game but still fighting for the win. We didn't have the substitutions and key players like Ozil or Xhaka to make that happen, but we had a honest, albeit shitty go.
I'm not as worried anymore. Our youth look bright and strong and our senior players look wise and sincere. Diamond dick Sven will strengthen our squad. Unai will further develop our style.
We will fucking beat them at Old Trafford soon enough and we will fly the colors of our crest over their dying fortress. We can do it. It's only a matter of time. Come on you Gunners!
