What To Expect From Life
Hey Dudes,
I'm looking to get an idea of what to expect in terms of job prospects and of course paychecks in entry level IT positions in Michigan if possible... There's gotta be a few folks out there with an idea. I don't place much faith in the results I get searching online and would really like to hear from some people with first hand experience.
My Background:
I've basically worked at McDonald's for 10 years. I'll fluff that up on a resume by saying that I've been the general manager for 5 years, which is true. I've also held a position as what's called an OTP2, which is the tech lead for our small group of restaurants. In reality this does not equate to very much hands on IT experience... but it's not zero either.
I'm one semester deep in pursuing a 2 year degree in the Network Administrator program at my community college. Within the next 4 to 6 weeks I'm planning on getting the A+ and Net+ cert, so long as I can study enough in between working full time and wrangling 2 children. I'm paid hourly at my job, at the ripe price of $14.50 per hour. Most of my income really comes from working 50+ hours per week. I'm just curious about how much of a cut you guys think I might have to take to get started in IT. I know I should be looking for help desk scenarios... what's it like out there? Anyone from or around Michigan with some insight?
Thanks in advance!
