Looking to dive into the beast that is Star Citizen

I have been keeping an eye on the progress of Star Citizen since it was first announced and am amazed at the incremental updates and the videos of the visual improvements over the years.

I would love to buy the game and play it as a casual, but am worried that it will get stale for me too quickly due to lack of content.

Is Star Citizen complete enough to give a full experience or mainly in the bug testing and discovery phase still? What keeps you coming back for more?
