Basicity of alkane (CH3)
The question I was working on asked, out of: R-CH3, R-NH2, R-OH, which base is the weakest? The answer: CH3 has no lone pairs so would be the weakest base. However, based on the pKa table, alkane has the highest pKa (~50) - would this mean that -CH3 is the strongest base as it is the weakest acid out of the three? This seems to contradict with the answer and confuse my thinking process too, so if anyone could give explanation it would be really appreciated.
