What's the story behind Mr Fischoeder's eyepatch?

I've been watching the show for a few years now and have seen plenty of episodes that Fischoeder is in but I don't remember him or any other character talking about it. Has it been covered in the show or outside of it (like in a q&a or interview) ? If not feel free to comment some theories.
