Vector app keeps stopping update

I got vector recently, but unfortunately I haven't been able to set him up at all. Every time I try to download the initial update the app will stop and say that it can't reach Anki. Sometimes I will download a bit (the most it has downloaded is about halfway) and then it will stop saying that it can't reach Anki with the wifi signal with the exclamation mark.

I've tried rebooting him, checking my router settings, and everything else, but it's not working. The app just won't connect. I'm not sure if it's my phone (Sony Xperia XZ1) or what. The weird thing is that the phone will say the update can't connect, but Vector will keep updating as if nothing happened (his screen won't change).
