My philosophy vs. Their philosophy

My philosophy - do things no one else is doing, to reach kids no one else is reaching.

I teach low-level Algebra 1 in a large, low-med income district.

When a kid walks in without an ID around their neck (a strict school policy) and they also look like they are about to cry, I temporarily abandon the rule - ask what's up and how they're doing - then gently and kindly remind them we've got to wear IDs. However in the hallways, my colleagues attack them, demand respect immediately and are usually unsatisfied with the student response. (sometimes giving out

I've received so much consistent compliance from students using my strategy.(IDs, tardies, late work, etc.) When I've put relationships first - everything else later, I've seen so much growth and success from these kids

However my colleagues have the opposite mindset. Be strict first, be nice later (a teaching mantra we've all witnessed.)

I'm going to stop here. I know a lot of you are amazing teachers will disagree with me, and honesly, I'll appreciate you for that.

This is a call for advice from other teachers in my situation. I will go with the flow and procedures, but I'm asking what to do with my colleagues.

Thanks.
