Boss owes me $1700, will not answer any of my texts, calls, or voicemails. Is there anything I can do to get my money?

Hi reddit, As the title says my boss owes me $1700. I was hired to do marketing for a bar for $600 and 20% commission off of any events that I sold for the bar. During my first 2 weeks on the job I sold an event for $2500 equaling a $500 commission. The money for the event has been paid yet I have not received any compensation for the work I have done and it’s been over a month since that event. I have not done any work for them in 2 weeks as they have not answered me and refuse to call me back. We did not have any formal contract however I have text messages acknowledging our agreement. I realize I am an idiot for not getting a formal contract agreed and taking someone at their word but is there anything I can do legal wise to get some of the money I earned?
