Real Estate threatening to charge all residents for dumpster dump (Colorado)
Hello,
I received an email from the real estate company that owns my apartment that someone has dumped two sofas at the dumpster. The email explains that this is not acceptable and the trash company will charge to take it. This is fine, but the email also states:
“If no one comes forward for the expense, it will be at our discreation [should say discretion] to charge back the entire complex for the expense of the couch removal.”
Can they legally do this? I did not dump the couch, and shouldn’t be punished for the mistake of another resident. On top of that, they have no proof that it’s someone in our complex. There are no security cameras in our complex (which is only 6 apartments) and the dumpster is on the side of a residential road that has at least 8 other apartment complexes by it.
I know the fee won’t be much, but I’m a teacher with student loan fees, so I’d rather not have something else to pay for.
Thank you!
