Looking for first lens recommendation for 77D.

Hey all. I'm buying a 77D soon and I'm looking for the "best" first lens. We're probably shooting mostly baby pics and nature shots while hiking. The EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM look like the two to decide between. We're totally new to the hobby though, so even with a lot of research, the decision is still hard. Thanks!

Side note: two photographer friends convinced me to go with the 77D. Being the kind of person who can't just take advice, I did a lot of research outside of reddit. My research led me to the same conclusion. Then, I spent 15 minutes reading through this sub, and I'm unsure again. A lot of folks seem to think the 80D is a drastically better camera. It makes me second guess myself... Am I making a mistake?
