Advice on a new ChromeBook

I am thinking about getting a ChromeBook and would like to hear some thoughts on which models may work well for me. I want to use it for:

• Watching offline Netflix / Amazon Prime on the plane
• Watching saved .mp4 movies offline (if possible)
• Coursera classes offline via android app
• General web surfing / streaming
• Run Linux just to mess around / learn Python

Any advice welcome, but I am particularly interested in the amount of storage I would need (16 vs 32 GB) or how useful an SD card would be in these scenarios. Inexpensive is always better. Long battery life is important.
