“You’ll have kids one day because it’s natural and that’s what it says in the Bible” A story of a work bingo
First time poster and long time reader here! Anyway, I work a part-time job for a pro basketball team in my area, and have done so for several years. Often, we will have school groups come in to perform the national anthem, and we had one tonight. A security guard who I talk a bit with here was observing a group of middle school teenyboppers who were being annoying and loud while they were getting ready to head out to the court. As I walked by, he says to me “doesn’t that make you want to have kids?” My response was “nope, I’m not a kid person and I don’t plan to have any.” That’s when the bingo began...
His response was “why not?! You’d make a great mom!” I said I don’t care to pass on my genes and bring a child into a world I barely like living in. I walked away, and that was that for now. When I came back again later, and he goes “I want to tell you something. In the Bible, it says to have kids. When you find a man and go to church, he’ll be telling you to have kids! It’s the natural thing to do.” That’s when I started to get very irritated. I don’t go to church as it is, and don’t plan to. I don’t care if it’s natural or not, I think the thought of spitting out a demon spawn out of my loins as repulsive. I went on to tell him that I wished I was sterile. He came back with “don’t mutilate your body! It’s selfish to want to do that! Even kids living in poverty deserve to be in this world. Mutilating yourself by becoming sterile is awful!” As I began to walk away, he still kept on about it. I’m kicking myself for not telling him I was already sterile.
This job is supposed to be a “fun” job, but I definitely am not having fun after that shitshow of a bingo. Damn bible thumpers...
